UK post-hardcore/emo vets Basement slowly returned after a short hiatus that surrounded COVID with a few shows in their country, including a headlining set at this year’s Outbreak Fest, and now they’re in the midst of playing their first North American shows in five years. The run surrounds their recent appearance at Riot Fest and their upcoming appearance at When We Were Young (where they’ll perform 2012’s Colourmeinkindness, home of their TikTok-revived “Covet”), and they hit NYC last night (9/29) at Brooklyn Steel. The show was originally scheduled to take place at the slightly smaller Webster Hall, where Basement made their first big post-hiatus return 10 years ago, and it had an opening set from Ovlov, who also opened that Webster Hall show 10 years ago. Snõõper opened as well.
We haven’t seen the exact setlist of the Brooklyn Steel show, but Basement’s recent setlists have mostly stuck to their first three albums (their 2011 debut I Wish I Could Stay Here, the aforementioned Colourmeinkindness, and 2016’s Promise Everything), and they’ve also been playing a new song.
