Young Jesus (aka John Rossiter) has just released his excellent new album The Fool on Saddle Creek, and for the occasion, John has chosen to rank the songs on it for us. He clearly had a little fun with it, with not-so-serious commentary that makes for an entertaining read. Young Jesus Ranks Every Song On The Fool
1. “Rich” – This is the best song on the album.
2. “Brenda & Diane” – Everyone tells me this is THE BEST song on the album BUT they are wrong. “Rich” is the best song on the album. This song does feature a story which makes it good.
3. “Rabbit” – Stories always make for better songs. Hence, this one is definitely in the top 5, if not the top 3 best songs on the Young Jesus album The Fool.
4. “Gods Plan” – This song features an actual joke I made up about communion. It is very rare for a song to not only feature original music but also feature an original joke.
5. “Two Brothers” – The shortest song on the album always earns a top 5 appearance, if not a top 10 appearance, in any ranking.
6. “Am I The Only One” – Very good video pushes this one easily into the top 10.
7. “The Weasel” – Appears on Hulu, therefore streamable on the most possible sites, earning it a spot in the top 10
8. “Moonlight” – This song is a sequel to previous Young Jesus album Home from many years ago. Because it is not original IP, it is less risky, a proven winner and therefore gets butts in seats at the cinema.
9. “Sunrise” – “Yeah I bought some new pants,” when considered in context, is the best lyric on the album The Fool, therefore earning this song a spot in the top 10.
10. “Dancer” – A very tough decision. This song is dark and almost completely live, making it very hard to stream.
Honorable mention: “MOTY” – This song is not exactly a story, thought it does have story elements. So it does not quite crack the top 10, but deserves a spot in the top 15 at least.
