Spencer Krug (Wolf Parade, Sunset Rubdown, Moonface, etc) has announced a new solo album. Same Fangs, the follow-up to 2023’s I Just Drew This Knife and Sunset Rubdown’s 2024 return, Always Happy to Explode, is due out May 15 via Pronounced Kroog. It had its genesis in demos he posted to Patreon over the past couple years, and it features strings arranged by Maria Grigoryeva, electric guitar and textures from Jordan Koop, and vocals from Elbow Kiss. The first single, “Timebomb,” is moody with distorted piano. Krug says it’s “a song about a song about a band on tour, or rather, about the failed revision of that song, upon sadly realizing that its original message no longer rings true. This is me lyrically folding myself into the murky layers of self-made lore.” Hear it below.
Krug will be on a solo piano tour in May, and Wolf Parade go on tour with Destroyer in the fall. All current dates are in Canada, and you can see them below.
