After co-founding and co-leading the great indie-emo band Tigers Jaw, Adam Andrzejewski (né McIlwee) helped pioneer emo-rap with his solo project Wicca Phase Springs Eternal, and now the shapeshifting, long-running project has embraced folk and country for his new album Mossy Oak Shadow, which is out now via Run For Cover. Produced by Uniform’s Ben Greenberg, the album was primarily tracked live with a backing band (The Mystery Mountain Band), who Adam’s also touring with, and there’s a guest appearance from Ethel Cain on the remarkable album centerpiece “Meet Me Anywhere.”
In conjunction with the album’s release, Adam has also told us about five of his favorite folk and country albums of all time. He gives the disclaimer that there are “not a lot of deep cuts” on his list, but that doesn’t make the list any less worth checking out. He picked five great albums and had a lot of interesting stuff to say about each one, including how some of them influenced this particular album and Wicca Phase’s current live-band setup. Wicca Phase have a few West Coast dates left on their current tour, and they were just announced on the 2026 lineup of Run For Cover’s Something in the Way festival (which Adam’s former band Tigers Jaw are also playing). All upcoming dates are listed below.
