This Is Lorelei‘s Box for Buddy, Box for Star was one of our favorite albums of last year and a lot of fellow indie rock artists like it too. MJ Lenderman called TIL his “favorite band right now” and he and Snail Mail both covered songs from the album for its deluxe edition, and now Waxahatchee has performed a This Is Lorelei cover as well. Following a stop at Newport Folk Festival that saw her playing her own set (with MJ Lenderman helping out for four songs) and doing some covers/collaborations with Jack Antonoff & friends, she stopped by Brad Cook‘s guest-filled Newport Folk Fest aftershow where she covered This Is Lorelei’s “Where’s Your Love Now.” TikTok user @sceneisbelieve posted a minute-long clip of the cover and you can check that out below.
Before the TIL cover, Waxahatchee also did a rendition of a classic song she’s covered a number of times, Gillian Welch’s “Wrecking Ball.” Also at that show was This Is Lorelei leader Nate Amos’ Water From Your Eyes bandmate Rachel Brown covering Red Hot Chili Peppers, MJ Lenderman doing Pink Floyd and Warren Zevon covers, Waxahatchee’s partner Kevin Morby covering Jonathan Richman & The Modern Lovers, and more.
