Watch Vampire Weekend play “Dangerous Nights” from ‘I Think You Should Leave’ in LA with Tim Robinson

Vampire Weekend are on tour now supporting their great new album Only God Was Above Us, and they had a surprise in store when they played LA’s Hollywood Bowl last night (6/12). Though he wasn’t credited, Ezra Koenig wrote and recorded the “Dangerous Nights” song for the I Think You Should Leave sketch ‘Baby Cries,’ and they played it live at last night’s show and brought ITSYL’s Tim Robinson out on stage with them.

“Now, you know this song is about a guy,” Ezra said to the crowd. “This guy used to be a real piece of shit. But people can change. This guy is here right now, right tonight.” Watch a couple videos of the moment below.

Ezra spoke about the song on a 2021 episode of Mark Hoppus’ After School Radio show on Apple Music, saying: “Basically through the producer, Akiva [Schaffer] from Lonely Island, and I’d met Tim Robinson before over the years. He’d come to a show. I was a huge fan. He’d always been cool. And then, Akiva hit me up just saying, ‘Hey, the guys need a song for the next season of the show. Could you do it?’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, whatever.’ Anything for that show.” About the atmospheric, auto-tuned style of the studio version, he added, “The best way I could describe the kind of music that they were looking for is pop music that came two or three levels after Frank Ocean and Bon Iver.”

Vampire Weekend’s tour comes to NYC on October 5 & 6 at Madison Square Garden, the latter of which is a Sunday matinee. Upcoming tour dates are listed below.
