So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
IDLES – “MOOD SWINGS” (LITTLE SIMZ COVER” & “ROY”
IDLES are the latest group to record songs for the Spotify Singles Series. Their two tracks include a new version of TANGK’s “Roy” and a cover of LIttle Simz’s “Mood Swings.”

DR. DOG – “LOVE STRUCK” (ft. M. WARD)
Dr. Dog were just announced for Riot Fest today, and they also shared a rustic, folky M. Ward collaboration from their upcoming self-titled album.

WIKI & TONY SELTZER – “NO L’S”
NY rapper Wiki and frequent collaborator Tony Seltzer have followed their 2023 album 14K Figaro with new single “No L’s,” and their chemistry is strong as ever on this one.

THE DOLLYROTS – “WRAPPED IN SUNSHINE” / “HOLDING OUT FOR A HERO” (BONNIE TYLER COVER)
The Dollyrots shared a new 7″ featuring surfy new single “Wrapped in Sunshine,” with a cover of Bonnie Tyler’s “Holding Out for a Hero” on the b-side.

FONT – “NATALIE’S SONG”
Texas band Font have shared “Natalie’s Song,” the latest single from their upcoming debut album Strange Burden. They have a way with mixing the electronic, organic and anthemic as you can hear here.
PLAYTHATBOIZAY – “MOOD SWINGS” (ft. MIKE DIMES)
Florida rapper PlayThatBoiZay and Texas rapper Mike Dimes, who will both appear on the upcoming Denzel Curry album, have made their own Southern rap banger together.

STOREFRONT CHURCH – “TAPPING ON THE GLASS”
The dramatic, menacing “Tapping on the Glass” is the final advance single from Storefront Church’s new album Ink & Oil, which comes out later this month.

MILLY – “BITTERSWEET MARY”
MILLY have shared another taste of Your Own Becoming and this is one of their wooziest, shoegaziest singles from the album yet.

HANNAH MOHAN – “SOAKED”
And the Kids’ Hannah Mohan is releasing her first solo album, Time is a Walnet, in July, and the latest single is “Soaked,” which she calls an “anti-folk cafe song.”

TRAIL OF LIES – “MY WAY” (ft. SCOTT VOGEL & DANNY DIABLO)
Syracuse hardcore band Trail of Lies’ new LP Only The Strong comes out July 19 via Triple B, and new single “My Way” features two veteran guests, Scott Vogel and Danny Diablo.

HEMLOCKE SPRINGS – “AGORA HILLS” (DOJA CAT COVER)
For her new 2-song Spotify single, Hemlocke Springs covered Doja Cat’s Scarlet track “Agora Hills.” She’s also opening for Doja in Europe on tour this month.

HELLO MARY – “0%”
“‘0%’ is one of our favorites to play live,” Hello Mary say of their grungy new single. “Our inspirations in the last year have broadened, and we feel like this song reflects that.”

DALE CROVER (MELVINS) – “DOUG YULETIDE”
Dale Crover of The Melvins and Redd Kross has announced his third solo album, Glossolia, which features contributions from Tom Waits, Ty Segall, Soundgarden’s Kim Thayil and more. The groovy first single is a tribute to VU’s Doug Yule.

O.R.B. – “YOU DO”
Australian psych-rock band ORB (not to be confused with electronic chillout group The Orb) will release new album Tailem Bend that’s out July 12 via Fuzz Club / Flightless. “Just like the Murray River of Tailem Bend, a small rural town with a name that made us think of some lost prog act when we passed it on tour, ‘You Do’ is one of the many sharp turns on the new record,” say the band of this new single. “It features our old Frowning Clouds bandmate Nick vanBakel (now of Bananagun) on congas and Ashley Goodall on backing vocals.”

LIZ LAMERE – “KING CITY GHOST”
Musician, artist and Alan Vega collaborator Liz Lamere releases new album One Never Knows this week and here’s one last early taste. She says: “Alan Vega is King City Ghost. This song opens the album, sets the tone and touches on themes explored throughout One Never Knows. It references a prophetic encounter Vega had with a street person in the early ’70s East Village who declared to Alan ‘I am the King of the Bums and when I die you will be the King of the Bums.’ Alan took that to heart as a tireless warrior for the oppressed. And he knew his creative vision would be further understood after he left this realm: ‘you said they’d know one day what you came to say.’ While One Never Knows expresses my distinct voice and perspective, it also carries Vega’s message forward as we continue to build on his legacy. The video by Jasmine Hirst includes vintage footage of NYC and Vega’s classic portrait drawings circa his encounter with the King of the Bums.”

VELOCITY GIRL – “AUDREY’S EYES” (REMIXED / REMASTERED)
Velocity Girl have remixed their 1993 debut album, Copacetic, for its first vinyl reissue since its original pressing.

THREE QUARTER SKIES (SIMON OF SLOWDIVE) – “CROWS” FT DAVE PEARCE
Slowdive drummer Simon Scott released his debut solo EP as Three Quarter Skies last year, and now he’s back with this single featuring Dave Pearce of ’90s-era shoegaze/post-rock group Flying Saucer Attack. “Crows” is gauzy and atmospheric, with a solar system’s worth of headroom as a clacking beat shoots through an ocean of dreamy guitars.

FAKE FRUIT – “CAUSE OF DEATH”
“I wrote the lyrics for this song when I felt so indecisive that I imagined someone performing an autopsy on me and declaring my cause of death to be indecision,” says Hannah D’Amato of Fake Fruit’s new single. As for the clown-centric video, D’Amato says, “I was thinking about that meme where the man is gradually turning into a clown without realizing it, and how that’s kind of what it feels like to participate in the rigged game of capitalism/the music industry where the house always seems to win.”

Irish post-rock vets God Is An Astronaut have announced their 11th album, Embers, alon gwith lead single “Falling Leaves.” Read more here.

HOMESHAKE – “EMPTY LOT”
Homeshake’s new album Horsie, his second 2024 release, is out later this month, and he’s shared “Empty Lot,” which completes a trilogy of videos started with “Nothing 2 See” and “Simple.” “The transformation is complete, and I can leave now,” Peter Sagar says. “Paris, Texas is my favorite movie, Star Trek: The Next Generation is my favorite TV show, and ‘Windowlicker’ is my favorite music video.”

HINDS – “EN FORMA”
Hinds’ new album Viva Hinds is out in September, and they’ve given us another early taste with “En Forma,” their first single in Spanish. “My boyfriend broke up with me and I turned 30 years old in the same week,” Carlotta Cosials says. “This was the first song I could write after months of feeling absolutely devastated, immobile and pathetic. I just wanted to get better but I just couldn’t, I couldn’t cope with this eternal race of being happier and better and cleaner and healthier.” Ana adds, “When I talk with my girlfriends, in the same afternoon we can chat about wars, philosophy, love and clothes. I tried to reflect on this song the chaos and huge spectrum of what it’s like to be a young woman these days. How overwhelming it can be to juggle the news, politics, our bodies, relationships and laundry.”

SOFI TUKKER – “SPIRAL”
Electro-pop duo Sofi Tukker release their new album BREAD on August 23 via Ultra Music, and the latest single is “Spiral.” “I’ve always loved ‘90s, early-2000s dance music, Eurodance kind of genre,” Tucker Halpern says. “We made this song with a nostalgic sound. It’s a club banger that brings you back to 2002 and the video is perfect with Heidi [Klum].”

AMY ALLEN – “DARKSIDE”
Songwriter and musician Amy Allen (who worked on Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso,” among other songs) announced her debut self-titled solo album, due out on August 23 via AWAL. She’s also shared a new single, “darkside,” which she says is about “learning to show your true self to someone you love, and how that can be painful and beautiful at the same time.”
