Radiohead‘s fall run of shows — their first since 2018 — kicked off Tuesday night in Madrid at Movistar Arena. It’s their first of four shows there and it’s also the debut of the band’s new stage show, which is in-the-round and has them playing inside what kind of looks like a giant birdcage with translucent LED screens all the way around that could be raised or lowered. It looks pretty cool in fan-shot footage that has made its way to social media.
Tuesday’s show opened with “Let Down,” which became Radiohead’s fourth Billboard Hot 100 hit in August, 28 years after its release, thanks to TikTok. Their set also included the first play of Hail to the Thief‘s “Sit Down. Stand Up.” in 21 years as part of a nice mix of their post-Pablo Honey catalog. Night One also got “Bloom,” “Everything in Its Right Place,” “15 Step,” “2 + 2 = 5,” “Myxomatosis,” “Weird Fishes/Arpeggi,” and more with “Idioteque” closing out the main set.
The band returned for an extended six-song encore of “Fake Plastic Trees,” “Subterranean Homesick Alien,” “Paranoid Android,” “How to Disappear Completely,” “You And Whose Army,” “There There,” and “Karma Police to close out the show. Check out the setlist and lots of fan-shot video below.
After Madrid, Radiohead play four-night stands in Bologna, London, Copenhagen, and Berlin.
UPDATE: At night two, they played two songs for the first time in 16 years, In Rainbows‘ “Jigsaw Falling Into Place” and The Bends‘ “(Nice Dream),” as well as a handful of other songs that weren’t played at night one. Find that setlist and videos of “Jigsaw” Falling Into Place” and “(Nice Dream)” below too.
