Joyce Manor have always been very vocal about blink-182‘s influence on them from the start, and Mark Hoppus has expressed his fandom of the band over the years as well. Joyce Manor are currently on the road playing their beloved 2014 album Never Hungover Again in full for its 10th anniversary with support on all dates from their old friends Algernon Cadwallader, and at last night’s (12/5) show at the Hollywood Palladium, they brought out none other than Mark Hoppus to sing and play bass with them on the album’s especially-blink-182-ish song “Heart Tattoo.”
Joyce Manor’s Barry Johnson introduced him as “one of the finest American songwriters ever,” and the crowd erupted when the big reveal came. “Don’t cheer!,” Mark insisted. “I might fuck it up!” Narrator: he didn’t. Watch the very fun moment below.
Joyce Manor’s Never Hungover Again tour hits NYC this Sunday (12/8) at Brooklyn Steel, and it’s a great triple bill with The Ergs! joining JM and Algernon. The Ergs! also open Monday’s (12/9) Boston show, and the tour wraps up in Chicago on Wednesday (12/11) with additional support from Liquid Mike.
Mark Hoppus, meanwhile, has a memoir on the way called Fahrenheit-182, co-authored by Dan Ozzi.
The Hollywood Palladium show wasn’t the only time this year that Barry Johnson collaborated with one of his ’90s heroes. He performed “Surf Wax America” with Weezer and interviewed them for a Spotify session back in June.
