Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic has a new band called The Bona Fide Band, with fellow grunge pioneer Mark Pickerel of the Screaming Trees on drums, Jillian Raye and Jennifer Johnson on vocals, and Kathy Moore on guitar, and one of their first shows took place in Kurt Cobain’s birthplace and Nirvana’s original hometown of Aberdeen, Washington on Friday (6/21) for Make Music Day. At the show, they covered “Love Buzz,” the 1969 song by Dutch psych-rock band Shocking Blue that Nirvana famously covered and released in 1988 as their debut single. They played it in the style of Nirvana’s version, down to the vocalists channelling Kurt’s sneery drawl. Check it out below. It probably comes as no surprise that Krist’s new band wasn’t the only Nirvana-related performance at Aberdeen’s Make Music Day; a young band also covered “Come As You Are” and you can watch video of that below (via the official Nirvana Twitter account) as well. A day after The Bona Fide Band’s Aberdeen show, Krist’s former Nirvana bandmate Dave Grohl brought his band the Foo Fighters to London, and he’s been making headlines for comments he made on stage that many are interpreting as a jab at Taylor Swift.
