Watch Bon Iver play a Kamala Harris/Tim Walz rally in Eau Claire, WI

Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris and her newly revealed vice presidential candidate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, were in Bon Iver‘s hometown of Eau Claire, Wisconsin for a rally today (8/7), and Justin Vernon and his band joined them for a performance. They played “Towers,” “666 ʇ,” “Flume,” and Civil War-era song “The Battle Cry of Freedom” by George Frederick Root, which advocated for abolitionism and supporting the Union. Introducing that one, Vernon said, “we’re gonna close out here with a nice, old, patriotic song that’s been rolling around in my head these past months. I love this melody and I love y’all. I appreciate you. We’re here for the right reasons and we all know what we’re here for, so we’re going to do our thing, make this music, and make way for the people that we need to hear from.” Watch that below.

In a social media post on Monday announcing his performance, Vernon wrote, “It’s time to rally around the right candidate. One who will fight for women and the trans community, and govern with dignity and respect for this country and the earth.”

Vernon has vocally supported political candidates in the past, including performing at an Iowa Bernie Sanders rally in 2020, and on a livestreamed Bernie rally in April of that year.
