So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
PLAYTHATBOIZAY – “LIL JIT” (ft. KENNY MASON)
South Florida rapper (and frequent Denzel Curry collaborator) PlayThatBoiZay has announced a new project, VIP, due August 23 via Loma Vista. Along with the announcement comes a new version of “Lil Jit” featuring Kenny Mason, and it finds Zay and Kenny in abrasive punk-rap mode.

SOPHIE THATCHER – “BLACK AND BLUE”
Yellowjackets actress Sophie Thatcher announced her debut EP, Pivot & Scrape, due out on October 11 via Bathsheba, and shared smoky, dreamy new single, “Black and Blue.” “I started out with a really lo-fi demo and this distorted drum beat that we ended up bringing into the background of the final mix,” she says. “The lyrics came to me pretty early on; I was inspired by the idea of redemption and the power of guilt. I find myself always using biblical and religious inspiration for lyrics. I initially had strong imagery of a man asking for forgiveness after sinning and losing all of his teeth. This image stuck with me and I used it to drive me through the song.”

NALA SINEPHRO – “CONTINUUM 1”
Ambient jazz musician Nala Sinephro will follow her great 2021 debut album Space 1.8 with a new album, Endlessness, on September 6 via Warp. She’s just shared the first track from it, a gorgeously ethereal, slow-burning piece called “Continuum 1.”

LOU HAYTER – “IN MY HEART”
Former New Young Pony Club keyboardist Lou Hayter announced a new album, Unfamiliar Skin, due out on October 4 via Greco Roman. New single “In My Heart” is ’80s-style pop at its most infectious.

TY SEGALL – “HONEYMOON (EDIT)”
Ty Segall’s upcoming album Love Rudiments is a drums-centric album that’s been called a “meditation of love,” and this new single was inspired by the honeymoon phase.

THE DARE – “YOU’RE INVITED”
Indie sleaze revivalist The Dare is releasing his full-length debut album, What’s Wrong With New York?, due out on September 6 via Republic, and the latest single is “You’re Invited,” which comes with a video directed by Jake Lazovick that nails the vibe of the era.

YAYA BEY – “CAREER DAY” (EXAKTLY REMIX)
Yaya Bey has tapped Exaktly to deliver a clubby remix of “Career Day” from her recent album Ten Fold.

LAURIE ANDERSON – “INDIA AND ON DOWN TO AUSTRALIA” FT. ANOHNI
Laurie Anderon’s first album in six years, Amelia, arrives at the end of the month, and she’s shared another track from it, which features contributions from ANOHNI, Martha Mook, Rob Moose, Tony Scherr, Nadia Sirota, Kenny Wollesen, and Marc Ribot.

PEEL DREAM MAGAZINE – “CENTRAL PARK WEST” & “DAWN”
Peel Dream Magazine have shared two more songs from their upcoming album for Topshelf, Rose Main Reading Room. On “Central Park West,” they juxtapose earthy instrumentation with urban themes, whereas “Dawn” is a more ethereal song that the band says was inspired by Philip Glass.

DUA SALEH – “TIME & TIME AGAIN” FT. SID SRIRAM
Dua Saleh’s debut full-length album, I Should Call Them, is out in October, and they’ve given us another early taste with “time & time again,” which features Sid Sriram. “The song reflects someone who could have been the forever person but we weren’t meant to be in this time,” Dua says. “We still have this deep bond and, maybe this happens more in queer relationships, we still look out for each other.”

FAKE FRUIT – “GOTTA MEET YOU”
Fake Fruit have shared a new song off Mucho Mistrust, a skronky, horn-fueled art punk song called “Gotta Meet You.”

LUNA LI – “BON VOYAGE”
“‘Bon Voyage’ is one of my favorite songs on this record,” Luna Li says of the latest new single off When A Thought Grows Wings. “It combines all of the things that I love – string & woodwind arrangements, sweeping harp, psychedelic guitars, driving drums, and yearning, questioning lyrics. I pushed to have this song as a single because even though it’s a perfect closer I didn’t want it to get lost at the end of the record. I’m really proud of the work that Andrew and I did on this one.”

TASHA – “SO MUCH MORE”
Tasha’s new album All This and So Much More comes out in September, and she’s shared a second advance track from it, “So Much More,” which she says “is about reminding myself to hold onto a mindset of abundance in lieu of fear or desperation. It’s about being grateful for what I have, and believing in the possibility of more goodness to come. Wonder, beauty, and love abounds when I’m able to keep my eyes and heart open to it. Capitalism feeds off of a scarcity mindset, and encourages us to hoard what we have out of fear of losing it, being without it, or someone else having ‘more’ than us. This song (and whole album in fact) resists that notion in its ending declaration, ‘You could have all this and so much more.'”

TEDDY AND THE ROUGH RIDERS – “CATFISH SUMMER”
Country band Teddy and the Rough Riders have announced a new album, Down Home, due October 11 via Appalachia Record Co. The first single is “Catfish Summer,” and Ryan Jennings says, “This one is about visiting my mom’s side of the family who lived in Rockmart, Georgia. But instead, my mom dropped me and my cousin off at my uncle Bubba’s house for a few weeks.”

THE GET UP KIDS – “TEN MINUTES” DEMO & VIDEO
The Get Up Kids have shared a demo of “Ten Minutes” from the upcoming 25th anniversary edition of Something To Write Home About, and they’ve also made a new music video for the album version of the song, directed by The Anniversary’s Josh Berwanger and featuring archival tour footage.
