Daniel Caesar‘s new album Son of Spergy, which features Bon Iver, Sampha, Blood Orange, and more, comes out later this month, and he’s been playing surprise pop-up shows ahead of its release. On Saturday he drew thousands to Los Angeles’ Elysian Park, where he played eleven songs as an LAPD helicopter flew overhead. He had a couple of guests on hand for the occasion too (although none of the aforementioned album guests); he brought out Mustafa and Turnstile‘s Brendan Yates. Turnstile’s Never Enough tour hit LA’s Exposition Park with Amyl & The Sniffers, SPEED, and Jane Remover later that night, so the timing worked out for the middle of the afternoon appearance, which had Yates doing a solo rendition of Never Enough‘s title track. The last time we saw Yates do this kind of stripped down performance was when he made a surprise appearance during the Ally Coalition’s 2024 Talent Show in NYC, performing a pair of songs with Liam Benzvi.
