Tricky has a new project called Theis Thaws, which is a collaboration with Parisian producer Mike Theis. The duo will release their debut album, Fifteen Days, on October 25 via Tricky’s False Idols label. (If you’re wondering, 15 days is how long it took them to make the record.) The album also features vocal contributions from French singer Rosa Rocca-Serra, and new False Idols signings Run Red and Lucy La Dusk.
From the sound of the two songs released from the album, Theis Thaws are a little more traditional dance music than what Tricky usually makes, with “Frozen Rivers” and “Fly to the Ceiling” (ft Rosa Rocca-Serra) powered by throbbing, 110 bpm four-on-the-floor beats, and icy synths. Both songs are good, moody as you’d expect from Tricky, and “Fly to the Ceiling” comes with an excellent, beefed-up remix by David Holmes.
