Detroit ska-punk vets The Suicide Machines just hit the road for Less Than Jake‘s Summer Circus Tour (that also includes Fishbone, Catbite, and Bite Me Bambi, with lineups varying by date), and on Friday (6/13) they’ll be dropping a new single called “Never Go Quietly.” But if you’d like to hear it before Friday, you’re in luck! It gets an early premiere in this post.
Vocalist Jay Navarro says “Never Go Quietly” is “about confronting my mental health and trauma from my childhood. I wrote it for people who suffer like me and I want them to know you can get help. Seek therapy it can work if you are honest with yourself. For those suffering, for those who have suicidal thoughts.” Fitting the subject matter, “Never Go Quietly” has a melancholic, mournful tone, and it’s a little slower for The Suicide Machines’ standards. It’s also as powerful sonically as it is thematically, and it’s more proof that The Suicide Machines’ second act has been just as fruitful as their first. These aren’t veterans relying on nostalgia; this is a band making some of their best music right now. Listen and watch the Tadd Martin-created lyric video below.
The Suicide Machines’ tour with Less Than Jake includes two NYC-area shows, Long Island’s Mulcahy’s on June 17 and NJ’s Starland Ballroom on June 20, and those are both also with Fishbone and Bite Me Bambi. The Suicide Machines also play the DC and Long Beach editions of Warped Tour. All dates are listed below.
