The Strokes played new song “Going Shopping” in San Francisco, sent cassingles to fans

UPDATE: Reality Awaits is due out June 26 via RCA and was produced by Rick Rubin. You can see the cover art, tracklist, and stream the studio version of “Going Shopping” below, and pre-order it on vinyl and CD in the BV shop.

PREVIOUSLY:

The Strokes played San Francisco’s Bill Graham Civic Auditorium last night, one of a couple Coachella warm-up shows they performed in the city over the last few days. Like at their show at the Warfield over the weekend, Steve Schiltz (Longwave, Wah Together) filled in for guitarist Nick Valensi. This was also their first show since announcing Reality Awaits, their first new album in six years, and they previewed it by giving laid-back new song “Going Shopping” its live debut. Watch fan-shot footage of that, and check out the full setlist, below.

Meanwhile, The Strokes also sent out cassettes of the studio version of “Going Shopping” to 100 fans who responded to marketing texts. Of course, that has now been uploaded to YouTube and you can listen to that, which features Julian Casablancas with more overtly auto-tuned vocals, below.

The Strokes play Coachella’s main stage on Saturday night at 9 PM, just before headliner Justin Bieber.

Reality Awaits is due out this summer, details are TBA and probably coming soon.
