After releasing their debut album A Light for Attracting Attention in 2022 and their sophomore album Wall of Eyes earlier this year, Radiohead offshoot The Smile have already announced their third album, Cutouts, due October 4 via XL. Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood and Tom Skinner have been testing out a handful of these songs live at recent shows, and they recently released two of them (“Don’t Get Me Started” and “The Slip”) on a 12″ vinyl record that’s only available in-person at record stores, along with a music video for the former. Like the first two Smile albums, Cutouts features string arrangements from the London Contemporary Orchestra.
Along with today’s album announcement, they put out two more songs from the album, “Foreign Spies” and “Zero Sum.” Like on everything we’ve heard from The Smile so far, Thom Yorke’s unmistakable voice and his chemistry with Jonny Greenwood is in excellent form. This band is just not slowing down, and they haven’t missed yet. Check out the videos for both new songs and “Don’t Get Me Started” below.
