Filmmaker Sam Mendes (American Beauty, 1917) is making four Beatles biopics, each one focusing on different member of the band and all to be released 2027, and Screenrant reports (via Hollywood gossip journalist The InSneider) that he has cast his Fab Four with very hot (careerwise and otherwise) young actors.
John Lennon will be played by English actor Harris Dickinson, who was in Triangle of Sadness and The Iron Claw, as well as AppleTV+ series Murder at the End of the World.
Paul McCartney will be played by Irish actor Paul Mescal, which should cut down on “I thought you were talking to me” confusion on the set. You know Paul from 2023 drama Aftersun, Hulu miniseries Normal People, and he stars in Ridley Scott’s upcoming Gladiator sequel. Music fans may also remember him as Phoebe Bridgers’ former boyfriend.
Irish actor Barry Keoghan, last seen dancing naked to Sophie Ellis Bextor’s “Murder on the Dancefloor” through Saltburn‘s end credits, will play Beatles drummer Ringo Starr.
And finally, George Harrison will be played by English actor Charlie Rowe, who is the least established of the four and whose recent credits include Rocketman, and Noah Baumbach’s upcoming film Jay Kelly that also stars George Clooney and Adam Sandler.
The four films are being released separately but are interconnected, offering different different perspectives on the Beatles story a la Rashomon. The films are being made with full cooperation from surviving members Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, the George Harrison and John Lennon Estates, and Apple Records.
