Season 3 of FX/Hulu’s The Bear dropped Wednesday night and while many watch for the racheted-up tension, the well-drawn characters and shots of perfectly plated food, the series’ soundtrack is impressive as well.
The S3 premiere which, no plot spoilers, is distinct from most episodes of the show, didn’t feature any needle drops but it’s dreamlike, droney score had people like me watching the closing credits. There it was revealed that Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross were the creators of the episode 1 score. Of course they were. UPDATE: while The Bear lists “Music by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross,” it’s Nine Inch Nails‘ “Together” from 2020 ambient album Ghosts V: Together used very effectively throughout the episode.
Episode 2 opens with a lovely acoustic cover of The (English) Beat’s 1982 classic “Save it For Later” by Eddie Vedder. The Bear had already used Pearl Jam songs “Animal” and “Come Back” in previous episodes. (Different renditions of “Save it For Later” pop up throughout the series as a bit of a theme for contemplative moments in the season.) Eddie shared the cover last night shortly after Season 3 was released on Hulu and you can listen to that below.
Meanwhile, Jennifer Castle (who is a longtime friend of The Bear’s Matty Matheson) has shared her song “Blowing Kisses” which features in Season 3’s penultimate episode. Listen to that below as well.
