So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
WIKI & TONY SELTZER – “DODGING LOSSES” (ft. PAPO2OO4)
Wiki and Tony Seltzer follow recent single “No L’s” with the neck-snapping “Dodging Losses,” and this one features Wiki’s 2000s-reviving pal Papo2oo4.

POM POM SQUAD – “DOWNHILL”
Pom Pom Squad are back with their first new music of the year, “Downhill.” “When people ask me how I get the courage to go out on stage or share my music publicly my honest answer is ‘I have no idea!,'” the band’s Mia Berrin says. “In my everyday life, I’m pretty reserved and shy so it’s odd, even to me, that I feel this pull to be on stage – to put my music out and open myself up to everything that comes with that. When I was writing ‘Downhill’ I was thinking a lot about the push-pull between those opposing sides of my personality. Sometimes being ambitious feels like being self-destructive and I wanted to explore the line between the two.”

BAD MOVES – “HALLELUJAH”
Bad Moves have announced a new LP, Wearing out the Refrain, due September 13 via Don Giovanni. The band’s own David Combs co-produced it with Hop Along/Algernon Cadwallader’s Joe Reinhart, and the first single is “Hallelujah,” a glammy boogie rocker written in support of queer and trans rights. Bad Moves also announced release shows happening in DC, Philly, and Brooklyn.

RACHEL CHINOURIRI – “THE SCIENTIST” (COLDPLAY COVER)
Rachel Chinouriri’s new Spotify Single includes a new version of “Robbed” from her recent debut LP What a Devastating Turn of Events, and a cover of “The Scientist” by Coldplay, who she calls her “all-time faves.”

TRIBULATION – “SATURN COMING DOWN”
Tribulation’s new single injects their usual arena black/death metal with a little baritone-vocal goth rock.

GEORGIA GETS BY – “MADELINE”
Georgia Nott of BROODS has unveiled another new single for her Georgia Gets By project, dramatic alt-pop track “Madeline,” which is out via Luminelle. “‘Madeline’ is about the moment you meet someone that you know will change you,” Nott says. “You feel it in the deepest place inside your stomach and become completely choice-less in your feelings for them.”

SINAI VESSEL – “LAUGHING”
Sinai Vessel has shared another warm, folky song from his upcoming album for Keeled Scales, I SING.

IRA GLASS – “WHERE’D YOU GET THE CANDY BABY LOL”
Following their debut studio single, “nancy’s hell,” earlier this month, Chicago band ira glass announced their debut EP, compound turbulence flexing for the heat, due out July 12 via Angel Tapes/Fire Talk. They’ve also shared another single, the noisy, chaotic “where’d you get the candy baby lol,” which was re-recorded from a previous demo.

MAITA – “BREAKUP SONG x3”
MAITA’s new album want is out next month, and she’s shared another new single from it, “breakup song x3.” The song “chronicles the dissolution of a single relationship, three times,” she says. “It explores the way the hot and cold nature of an uncertain heart can keep another held in suspense and trying to figure out what went wrong with each separation. I encountered this in the early days of my first relationship: the power imbalance of reaching for somebody who is pulling away. It did wild things to my brain. I ruminated, I second-guessed, I created narrative upon narrative in my head to try to make sense of it all. It was an anxious obsession that, at the end of the day, clouded my understanding of what it was that I actually wanted for myself.”

Ravyn Lenae’s new album Bird’s Eye is out in September, and she’s given us another early taste with “Dream Girl,” Featuring Ty Dolla $ign.

ANTHONY GREEN – DOOM. SPUN. + NEW VIDEOS
Anthony Green just released his new album featuring new songs, remixes/reworked versions of Boom. Done. songs, his solo version of his Skrillex collab “3am,” a cover of Title Fight’s “Numb, But I Still Feel It,” and more, plus two new videos.

BLOC PARTY – “FLIRTING AGAIN”
“‘Flirting Again’ is about being thrust back into the scene and trying to remember how it all works,” Kele Okereke says of Bloc Party’s new single, which arrives ahead of their set at Glastonbury and their biggest headlining show yet at London’s Crystal Palace Park. “It’s about trying to appear desirable, whilst at the same time hiding the hurt that defines you. We are all carrying around the various scars that we have accumulated over the years, the heartbreaks that have come to shape how we give love and receive love. This song is about picking yourself up and carrying on.”

LOMA – “AFFINITY”
Texas by way of Dorset and Berlin trio Loma will release their wonderful third album How Can I Live Without a Body? on Friday and here’s one last enchanting preview before the whole album is yours.

LEIF VOLLEBEKK – “SOUTHERN STAR”
“I think this might be my favorite song I have ever written, and it took a while to reveal itself,” Montreal singer-songwriter Leif Vollebekk of “Souther Star” from his upcoming album Revelation. “I spent about two years waiting for the last verse to come. It was recorded in one live take with me on piano, Oliver on drums, Shahzad on bass and Angie, who happened to be in town, singing harmony. We added Rob Moose on strings and Cindy Cashdollar on steel guitar. I asked her to stretch out at the end, and, when she did, I just sat there in the control room, completely blown away.”

ARI ÁRELÍUS – “LOOK AT THE CLOWN”
“Clowns are multifaceted and polarizing figures that are hard to pin down—they’re somehow both entertaining and scary at the same time,” says Icelandic singer-songwriter Ari Árelíus of this new song. “I was also thinking about The Fool card in tarot and how that can represent new beginnings and having faith in the future. It locks into how I was feeling when I wrote this song, trying to accept this mess of a human I found myself to be.” This is the first taste of Ari’s upcoming solo album, details TBA.

LONGPLAYER (DRUGDEALER’S MIKEY LONG) – “MY DREAMS OF YOU” & “FIND YOUR WAY”
Mikey Long of Drugdealer makes music on his own as Longplayer and has just released his debut single. It’s a double A-side and fans of Drugdealer’s ’70s-ism will find lots to like in these two lush tracks.

BEING DEAD – “FIREFIGHTERS”
Austin psych duo Being Dead will release new album EELS on September 27 on Bayonet. Single “Firefighters” doesn’t adhere to any genre rules, zigging and zagging over the course of nearly five minutes.

MIDLAND – LUCKY SOMETIMES
Country trio Midland have announced Barely Blue, their new Dave Cobb-produced album, which will be out September 20 via Big Machine Records. “‘Lucky Sometimes’ is a get up and go, hot streak, feel good anthem for when it feels like you just can’t lose,” says the band’s Mark Wystrach. “The arrangement is sparse with a high and lonesome groove that crests with soaring harmonies on the hook. It’s the first song on the album and an introduction to the new sonic landscape that Midland found with Dave Cobb at the helm.”

KATO HIDEKI & KRAMER – “TRANQUILITY”
Japanese artist Kato Hideki has teamed with producer Kramer for new album The Walk which will be out August 23 via Shimmy-Disc. “We started working together in the late summer in 2023, discussing the thematics and the sonic palette of the album,” says Hideki. “We shared strong connections with the writings by Robert Walser and Basho – both of them walked, dreamed, lived and died on the road.”

MANU CHAO – “SÃO PAULO MOTOBOY”
French-Spanish artist and onetime Mano Negra leader Manu Chao has announced Viva Tu, his first album in 17 years, which will be out September 20 via Because Music. The first single from the album is “São Paulo Motoboy” which Chao says is a tribute to couriers in São Paulo, Brazil.

PEEL DREAM MAGAZINE – “LIE IN THE GUTTER”
Peel Dream Magazine have announced a new album, Rose Main Reading Room, which will be out September 4 via Top Shelf. Previous albums have found main man Joseph Stevens taking influence from ’90s shoegaze, Stereolab and The High Llamas, and you can hear all that on droney, vibraphone heavy first single “Lie in the Gutter,” but Peel Dream Magazine have found their own sound within all those things.

UNIFORM – “THIS IS NOT A PRAYER”
NYC industrial rock band Uniform have announced their fifth studio album, American Standard, which will be out August 23 via Sacred Bones. Here’s the pummelling first single.

MELT BANANA – “FLIPSIDE”
Japanese noise rock legends Melt Banana will release 3+5, their eighth album and first in 11 years, later this summer. They may be older but they haven’t mellowed one bit as you can hear on “Flipside,” an absolutely wild ripper that launches out of the gate at 300mph and rockets through the next two minutes with relentless syncopated drumming, a maelstrom of guitars and Yasuko Onuki’s frenzied shouts.

JD MCPHERSON – “SUNSHINE GETAWAY”
Nashville musician JD McPherson has announced Nite Owls, his first album in six years, which will be out September 27 via New West. The record finds him expanding his sonic palette beyond rootsy early rock n’ roll into glam, new wave and alt-rock.“To me, the thread between Duane Eddy (whom the album is dedicated) and Depeche Mode is that single-note, reverb-y guitar style. So it felt natural to blend that kind of big-string guitar thing with the classic stuff and a dash of surf. It made sense.”
