After making a gradual return to the stage following a hiatus, grungegaze trailblazers Superheaven are now in the midst of a full-fledged comeback. They’re currently playing to sizable, loving crowds on tour opening for The Story So Far, and they recently released their first new song in 9 years, “Long Gone,” which we reviewed and named one of the best punk songs of November. The band mentioned when “Long Gone” was released that it would get a vinyl release via Blue Grape Music, paired with another new single called “Numb To What Is Real,” and that second new song and the vinyl are both out today.
“Long Gone” was sung by Taylor Madison, while “Numb To What Is Real” finds co-vocalist Jake Clarke taking lead. Superheaven have been playing both new songs to great reception on the tour with The Story So Far, and “Numb To What Is Real” sounds even better recorded. This one leans more into the gritty, grungy side of Superheaven, but still with no lack of shoegazy atmosphere, and it’s another great one. It sounds like classic Superheaven and very current all at once. Check it out below, and pick up the vinyl single here.
