The Goalie’s Anxiety at the Penalty Kick recently announced their sophomore album The Iliad and the Odyssey and the Goalie’s Anxiety at the Penalty Kick, due April 25 via Count Your Lucky Stars, and today we’re premiering second single “Mr. Settled Score.” Vinyl pre-orders have also just launched.
“Mr. Settled Score” is a six-and-a-half-minute journey that finds Goalie’s Anxiety in somber slowcore territory and building up to a majestic, orchestral climax. It’s a gorgeous, suspenseful song and bassist Mike Foster–who sings on this one–says, “Ben asked me to sing on this song after a few times of hearing me sing on our pandemic Goalie open mic streams. He described the vocal style he wanted as ‘a guy yelling’ when we were rehearsing to record. I remember I wore myself out in the studio doing around ten takes of this in different styles. I invite listeners to take what they will from this song, but my personal feeling is that the muted ‘guy yelling’ vocals in background really add to a moment in the song that lyrically, to me, reflects both desperation and frustration.”
