Sleater-Kinney released their new album Little Rope in January, along with an accompanying orchestral EP, Frayed Rope Sessions, that benefitted reproductive justice nonprofit Noise for Now. They’ve been keeping busy for much of the year on tour, but now that the year’s winding down, we asked them about their favorite music of 2024. Corin Tucker and Carrie Brownstein made us a list of 10 albums and songs, and you can read that and their commentary below.

Tyler The Creator – “Balloon (Feat. Doechii)”
Love the whole album but this track near the end is one of my favorites; avant garde and slightly demented.
Chat Pile – “Frownland”
Driving music to help obliterate bad thoughts.
Osees – “Drug City”
Taut, wiry grooves that keep the mood hectic.
Scarcity – “Venom & Cadmium”
Propulsive, annihilating, and wondrous.
Jessica Pratt – “Get Your Head Out”
Conjures something familiar by making it sound strange.
Brittany Howard – What Now
This is one of those rare albums that surprises you, changes and develops as you listen, groove, and you’re both different at the end of it.
Cindy Lee – Diamond Jubilee
Beautiful, hard, delicate, and charming.
Beth Gibbons – Lives Outgrown
Quietly crying, walking the dog, trying to process some of those feelings, this one helps.
Nilüfer Yanya – My Method Actor
Great, dark melodies and rhythms, kind of hear TV on the Radio, one of my faves.
Kim Gordon – The Collective
Blazing baddass and funny as hell, goddammit.
