See videos & setlist of Cap’n Jazz’s first show in 7 years

Cap’n Jazz played their first show in seven years last night (10/6) at hometown-area Chicago venue Empty Bottle, a heavily-teased warm-up gig billed as “loCAl PuNk JAmmers, some likely buZZed” before their headlining set at Las Vegas’ new Best Friends Forever festival this weekend.

Like when they last reunited in 2017, Tim and Mike Kinsella had their cousin Nate (who Mike also currently plays with in American Football) filling in for The Promise Ring’s Davey von Bohlen, and judging by the fan-shot video we’ve seen, it looks like it was as wild and rowdy as you’d hope. They also had some surprises in store; according to Setlist.fm, this was the first time they played “Bluegrassish” and “Flashpoint: Catheter” live, and also the first time they played a song by their post-Cap’n Jazz band Owls, “For Nate’s Brother Whose Name I Never Knew Or Can’t Remember.” Check out the full setlist and some videos below.

Cap’n Jazz play Best Friends Forever this Friday (10/11), directly after the very-Cap’n’-Jazz-influenced Algernon Cadwallader (who also recently reunited). Mike and Nate pull double duty with an American Football set that day too. Set times here.

Cap’n Jazz are also reportedly “working on” Europe/UK shows for 2025.
