Yesterday everyone got very excited when Primavera Sound festival, in their press release about the 2025 lineup, wrote that LCD Soundsystem, would “come back to the festival (and with a new album!).” (That’s our bolding.) With a new song “X-Ray Eyes” that had premiered on NTS radio earlier in the week, nearly every blog and music news site (including us) picked up on the story of a new LCD album, which would be their first in eight years.
Today, more than 24 hours after the initial press release was sent out, Primavera Sound have sent a new statement saying they were in error writing about LCD Soundsystem:
James Murphy’s band will not present a new album at Primavera Sound Barcelona 2025 but will return to the festival welcomed as a major headliner act after their new song X-Ray Eyes and of course with their impressive and influential collection of anthems
According to the publicist, the festival was referring to “X-Ray Eyes” and not a new album. Typo or accidental leak? We’ll see, but we’ve still got our fingers crossed for a new album in 2025.
LCD Soundsystem’s LA residency starts next week, and we’ll be keeping our eyes on the setlists for new material.
