After lots of teasers, Olivia Rodrigo officially announced her new album you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love earlier this month, and now she’s officially given us the first taste. “Drop Dead” is a dreamy synth pop song co-written by Amy Allen and produced by her regular collaborator Dan Nigro. “It’s the first chapter in the story of you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love and it makes me wanna skip around and roll the windows down and make out!,” she writes on Instagram. The Petra Collins-directed video was filmed at the Palace of Versailles, and you can watch it below.
Rodrigo references the Cure’s “Just Like Heaven” in the song, continuing her public fandom of the band – she previously brought out Robert Smith at Glastonbury to perform that song and “Friday I’m in Love.” Smith also told British Vogue that Olivia “calls me up quite a bit to talk about clothes and fashion” and that they’ve been in the studio together.
