So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
CHOIR BOY – “I’LL ALWAYS LET YOU DOWN”
Gothy electo group Choir Boy are back with their first new music since 2020, a very catchy new single titled “I’ll Always Let You Down” which was produced by Jorge Elbrecht (Japanese Breakfast, No Joy). “(I’ll Always) is an anti-love song—a sardonic self-indictment of a failing lover,” says singer Adam Klopp.

LANA DEL REY – “FIRST LIGHT”
Lana Del Rey originally wrote part of “24” for the 2015 James Bond film Spectre. It wasn’t selected, and now she has a song in the Bond franchise. She wrote “First Light” with Bond composer David Arnold, and it’s for a Bond video game by the same name. “Lana brought an elegance and atmosphere to the song that felt perfectly suited to continuing that tradition while introducing something fresh for a new era,” Arnold says.

KEVIN MORBY – “BADLANDS”
“Badlands is certainly a song I feel like I’m just starting to understand,” says Kevin Morby. “I love it a lot but why did I choose to write a song called Badlands? It feels like low hanging fruit as a title; everyone of course adores the 1973 Terrence Malick masterpiece, not to mention the Bruce Springsteen song or the national park in South Dakota – a place I’ve never been. Even while working on the album I noticed that Mumford and Sons had also written a song titled Badlands, scrawled out on a dry erase board in the same studio. But what I’ve discovered as I’ve been talking about my album ahead of its release next month is that I’ve seemed to set out on some sort of mission to reclaim a handful of these titles from the American lexicon. Namely ‘The Great Wide Open,’ ‘Badlands’ and the ‘Bible Belt.’ These are all iconic names of regions that don’t actually apply to where I live or what I’m singing about but I have made it my business to take those titles and superimpose them over my experience in the Midwest.” New album Little Wide Open is out May 15.

FROZEN SOUL – “DEATHWEAVER”
Frozen Soul’s new album No Place of Warmth arrives next month, and they’ve given us another preview with “Deathweaver.” “‘DEATHWEAVER’ is about how slowly, in time, you lose pieces of yourself and gain new perspectives,” vocalist Chad Green says. “Weaving your memories of life’s experiences to form who you are inside, and the cruel nature of life—the cycle of death—and how hard it is to stay who you are.” He adds, “In the end, the video is about a woman that is centuries old, and in her eyes she is forever chasing her dream of creating the perfect harp. In reality, she is using the flesh, bones, veins, and nerves of her victims (us performing) to make this bone harp—the end reveal is nuts! I also had a ton of fun working with my childhood friend Eric from Mile High Animation on the design of the harp, he 3D printed it in pieces then I put it together, painted and gored it up with the help of Sam!”

GREGORY ALAN ISAKOV & SYLVAN ESSO – “FADE INTO YOU” (MAZZY STAR COVER)
Does the world need another cover of “Fade Into You”? Probably not but Gregory Alan Isakov and Sylvan Esso do put their own spin on it. “I grew up listening to Mazzy Star and sort of sketched this song out one afternoon,” says Gregory. “I had read an article about Hope Sandoval (the singer of Mazzy Star) the week before, and there was this paragraph about how she played a few shows at the Sydney Opera House in almost complete darkness. Some of the crowd was super disgruntled about it and walked out. I remember thinking, ‘Wow, what a badass. She’s my absolute hero. I sat on the recording I made for a long time, thinking it wasn’t quite finished, and reached out to Amelia of Sylvan Esso. She has one of my favorite voices of all time. Once I heard her on it, it felt ready. I really love how it came out.” New album Little wide Open is out May 15.

MAD HONEY – “MOSHFEGHIAN”
Oklahoma City shoegazers Mad Honey release their new album Bridge Over Cumberland next month, and they’ve given us another early taste with “Moshfeghian.” Vocalist Tuff Sutcliffe says it “feels like the thesis statement of the whole record. It gets to the core of what we’re exploring: nostalgia, change, and the desire to hold on while letting go. Writing it helped us clarify the themes that run through all 11 tracks, and it’s the song that most fully captures the spirit and energy of BOC.”

NEW IDEA SOCIETY – “NIGHTBIRDS”
New Idea Society, the project of Stephen Brodsky and Mike Law, release their new album Fire on the Hill in May, and the new single is “Nightbirds.” Brodsky says it’s “easily one of my favorite songs that Mike has ever written. I think it beautifully captures what it’s like to share a journey with someone. Togetherness, adventure, triumph and loss – it’s all here. Mike’s vision went above and beyond with a video that couldn’t be more complimentary to the sprawling sounds in this sonic masterpiece. I’m proud to have played any part in it.”

HOLYBONES FT BAXTER DURY – “SLUGBOY”
Enigmatic London collective Holybones released their debut EP last year and are now back with this single featuring vocals from Baxter Dury. They say: “We’ve been fans of Bax’s for a long long time, so it was great to get in the studio and write ‘SLUGBOY’ with him. We found the places in each other’s worlds pretty neatly on this one. Go be a SLUGBOY”

THE FLATLINERS – “PULPIT”
“‘Pulpit’ is a musical excavation of what always feels to be looming in the dark corners around us,” The Flatliners say of the new single off Cold World, which is out on May 8. “Our palpable mortality, the deception of belief, and the beauty of decay, all wrapped up into a twist and turn for two-and-a-half minutes that will just keep you guessing.”

PENELOPE TRAPPES – PLATINUM (SAINT ETIENNE REWORK)
Pelelope Trappes released new album A Requiem last year and has now announced a remix version featuring Julia Holter, Saint Etienne, Gazelle Twin, Midwife, and more. You can hear Saint Etienne’s rework of “Platinum” now. “I love the slightly dark and cinematic moods of Penelope’s music,” says Saint Etienne’s Pete Wiggs. “Platinum was a great track to mix with its haunting melody and heavenly cello arrangement – it felt just right for an ear pummeling trance-inducing rework.”

LYRA PRAMUK – “ENDING” (DJRUM ENDLESS REWORK)
Lyra Pramuk announced Hymnal (Resung), featuring reworks of songs from her 2025 album Hymnal, and due out June 5 via 7k / pop.soil. “This rework project invites artists to deconstruct and recompose individual tracks as acts of sonic translation: ritual, mourning, conjuring, renewal,” Pramuk says. “Hymnal (Resung) is not a remix album, but a polyphonic transmission, each piece a new vector in the ongoing dialogue between collapse and care, ancestry and futurity, the body and the earth.” The first single is Djrum’s rework of “Ending.”

BROKEN SOCIAL SCENE – “THE CALL”
Ahead of the release of their first album in 9 years, Remember the Humans, Broken Social Scene have shared a final single, the Andrew Whiteman-led “The Call.”

PSYCHOBUILDINGS – “OUTSIDE”
DIY dancepop artist Psychobuildings will release Tears Vol 1, his first album in six years, on May 1. “Outside” falls nicely into Pet Shop Boys territory.

JENNY ON HOLIDAY – “ANDROGYNOUS” (THE REPLACEMENTS COVER)
Jenny on Holiday (Jenny Hollingworth of Let’s Eat Grandma) announced an “excess baggage” extended version of her debut solo album Quicksand Heart, due out April 29. One of the bonus tracks is her stripped-down cover of Replacements’ “Androgynous.”

BOARDS OF CANADA – “TAPE 05”
What a day for fans of classic UK downtempo dance music. First we had Massive Attack’s collab with Tom Waits, which was both their first music in a long time (see above), and now we’ve got Scottish duo Boards of Canada, who have just released ttheir first new music in 13 years.
