NOFX announce new EP, ‘Half Album,’ share “I’m A Rat”

As NOFX gear up for their final shows, they’ve also announced a new EP. It’s called Half Album, and it features five more songs from the same sessions that produced 2021’s Single Album and 2022’s Double Album. “These songs were all recorded at the same time,” Fat Mike says. “It just takes me a while to finish shit. So, this is me tying up loose ends, which is very good for the soul.” He continues:

Was it worth it? Was it worth spending five years finishing the five songs on my double album project that I thought were the worst of the bunch? Was it a good idea to spend so much time raising the runts of the litter? Was it an error in judgement when I wrote a song about the magnitude of my arrogance? I think the answers to all these rhetorical questions might be found by listening to this half-sided album….. but I seriously doubt it.

The first single is “I’m A Rat,” a snotty, catchy skate punk song that sounds like classic NOFX. Mike had originally given the song to Japan’s Hi-Standard, who released their version last year, and he also included an instrumental orchestral version of it on his 2023 album Fat Mike Gets Strung Out. Now the NOFX version is here, and it comes with a puppet-themed music video by Chris Graue. Check it out below.

The EP also includes a full-band NOFX version of “The Queen Is Dead,” which Mike included a stripped-down version of on his 2019 Cokie The Clown album, and closing track “The Last Drag” is intended as a counterpart to Single Album opener “The Big Drag.” It comes out on April 19 via Fat Wreck Chords.

NOFX’s final tour includes three NYC shows on July 12, 13, and 14 at Brooklyn Paramount, which will find them performing different albums in full each night with TBA special guests. Their very last shows are on October 4, 5, and 6 at Berth 46 in LA. All dates are listed below.
