Earlier this year, an artist named Neon Nightmare signed to 20 Buck Spin and then announced their debut album Faded Dream, which comes out tomorrow (November 1) and is streaming in full now. The identity of the artist has been kept under wraps, but one thing that has been clear is that the project is a clear homage to Type O Negative. The music sounds very Type O-inspired, the artwork mirrors classic Type O designs, and the album credits list guest vocal performances from The Bensonhoist Lesbian Choir, the name that Peter Steele jokingly used on all of Type O Negative’s albums to comprise whatever friends stopped by the studio to hang out and do backing vocals. And today, the person behind Neon Nightmare has finally revealed their identity.
…sort of. They just put out a new video for the song “They Look Like Shadows,” and a press release asys that one of the cameos in the video is from Mr. Neon Nightmare himself. Directed by Emmanuella Zachariou and released on Halloween, it follows three vampire women having a night on the town and tricking a bunch of men into becoming their next victim. It ends with a killing spree at real-life Brooklyn metal bar Duff’s (known for, among other things, hosting an annual Peter Steele tribute night), and there’s one man at the bar who’s able to fend them off, and that man just so happens to be Spirit Adrift leader (and former Gatecreeper member) Nate Garrett. Spirit Adrift have also worked with producer Jeff Henson, who produced the Neon Nightmare album. Could that be who it is?? Watch the video and decide for yourself below.
