Sudanese-Canadian singer/songwriter and poet Mustafa has announced his debut album, Dunya, due out on September 27 via Jagjaguwar. “This record encapsulates so much of my life,” he says, adding, “I’m trying to preserve and celebrate the ordinary life in the hood.” Dunya features contributions from The National‘s Aaron Dessner, Rosalía, Clairo, Nicolas Jaar, his friend and creative director Ramy Yousef, and more, and you can see the cover art and tracklist below.
The album features this year’s “Gaza Is Calling” and “Imaan,” and 2023’s “Name of God”; he’s now giving us another early taste with “SNL,” produced by Simon Hessman and Rodaidh McDonald. “‘SNL’ is about finding charm in the gloom of the hood – to love despite the circumstance, despite the worst of us,” he says. Mustafa organized a pair of benefit concerts Gaza and Sudan this year, one in Newark, NJ and a second in London. He’s also on the lineup for FORM Arcosanti and TONES of NYC in October.
