Montreal art pop artist Thanya Iyer announces new album ‘TIDE/TIED,’ shares “Low Tides”

Montreal artist Thanya Iyer has announced her third album, TIDE/TIED, which arrives April 30 via Topshelf (pre-order). It was primarily made and co-produced with multi-instrumentalists Pompey and Daniel Gélinas, and it also features multiple other musicians contributing backing vocals, harp, horns, and strings (full album credits here). Thanya is an artist who pulls from baroque pop, folk, jazz, ambient music, and more, and you can hear bits of all of that stirring around in lead single “Low Tides.” If you’re into stuff like Mabe Fratti and Julia Holter (the latter of whom Thanya opened for last year) and you haven’t checked out Thanya’s music yet, change that with “Low Tides.” Listen below.

“‘Low tides’ is about moving through those spaces where we lose our ability to dream – drowned in stagnation – numbness – despair – but also continuing to hold the quiet strength, hope, and trust needed to carry us forward,” Thanya says. About the painting on the album artwork, she adds:

The cover shows me, on fire, open arms, at peace, waiting for the tide to fall – the relief, transformation, release – destruction and renewal, intertwined. The fire represents all we carry, seen and unseen: grief, chronic pain, intergenerational trauma, the weight of living in a dissonant world. Yet the open arms embody trust and surrender, a peaceful belief that the tide will come, bringing on the crash of transformation and healing, within ourselves and in community.
