After spending the summer laying low after parts of his memoir didn’t go over so well, electronic musician Moby is back in the news in a surprising way: figuring into Congress’ investigation of the Deutsche Bank and Donald Trump. A least a little.
David Enrich, finance editor for The New York Times and author of upcoming book Dark Towers (about the Deutsche Bank and Trump), wrote a piece today about Val Broeksmit, the son of late Deutsche Bank exec Bill Broeksmit and lynchpin whistleblower in the case. Broeksmit, who also leads NYC band Bikini Robot Army, obtained Deutsche Bank files from his late father’s email and had been offering them to journalists (including Enrich who used him extensively in his book) and the authorities, but it was an encounter with Moby at a Hollywood dinner party earlier this year that apparently helped move the case forward. Moby “was impressed by Mr. Broeksmit’s exploits and existential sadness” and introduced him to Adam B. Schiff, the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, which had opened an investigation into the relationship between the Deutsche Bank and Trump.
That is the extent of Moby’s mention in the story. Broeksmit tried to get money from the House Intelligence Committee, who refused and later subpoenaed him, and Broeksmit began cooperating with the FBI. It is an interesting story, the Moby bit is just a little extra frosting on the cake. You can read it at The New York Times.
