Here we are, the second taste of The Cure‘s Songs of a Lost World. “A Fragile Thing” debuted in The Cure’s live setlist on November 4, 2022 in Assago, Italy and became a live staple of their Shows of a Lost World tour. Unlike “Alone,” this one has a little sunshine, just a peak, and a shuffling, danceable beat.
Robert Smith says “A Fragile Thing” is “driven by the difficulties we face choosing between mutually exclusive needs, and how we deal with the futile regrets that can follow these choices however sure we are that the right choices have been made. It can be really hard to be the person you need to be.”
Listen to “A Fragile Thing” below.
Songs of a Lost World is The Cure’s first album in 16 years and will be out November 1 (preorder it on vinyl). They’ve just revealed the tracklist for the eight-song album, which includes “Alone” and “A Fragile Thing” plus “I Can Never Say Goodbye,” “And Nothing Is Forever,” and “Endsong,” all of which they played on their 2022/2023 tour. That leaves three we haven’t heard — “Warsong,” “Drone:NoDrone,” and “All I Ever Am” — while another song they played in 2023, “Another Happy Birthday,” didn’t make the cut.
Check out the tracklist and artwork below and preorder the standard vinyl edition in the BV shop.
The band will play a show in London just ahead of that which will be broadcast on Halloween by the BBC. Robert Smith says it’s “not an album launch show,” and to stay tuned for more info.
