LCD Soundsystem celebrated Halloween at Los Angeles’ Shrine Expo Center for the first night of their eight-show LA residency. Appropriately, the band opened the show with a cover of Bauhaus‘ classic “Bela Lugosi’s Dead.” After that they played, in Murphy’s words, “a cavalcade of non hits, singles going non steady,” beginning with, natch, “You Wanted a Hit.”
From there, LCD Soundsystem’s main set included “Tonite,” “I Can Change,” “new body rhumba,” “Movement,” and more, closing out with the one-two punch of “Someone Great” and “Losing My Edge.”
They came back for their first encore and gave new single “X-Ray Eyes” its first live performance, which was followed by “Daft Punk is Playing at My House” and “Home.” The second encore, which has been pretty standard for a while, was “Dance Yourself Clean,” “New York I Love You” and finally “All My Friends.”
Check out video of “Bela Lugosi’s Dead” and “X-Ray Eyes” below.
“X-Ray Eyes” is out on streaming services today, and they had limited edition 12″ pressings with a screen-printed sleeve for sale at the show; there will be 100 copies available at every show. There are also 500 copies for sale via DFA Records’ website. It’s the first single from LCD Soundsystem’s long-awaited fifth album… which is not finished yet.
LCD’s LA residency contines tonight through Sunday at the Shrine Expo Hall, and next week they’ll do four shows at Hollywood Palladium (November 7-10). Tickets are on sale.
After that it’s their annual NYC holiday residency at Knockdown Center, with 12 shows across three extended weekends: November 21-24 with Poolside; December 5-8 with Gustaf; and December 12-15 with Fcukers. Tickets are on sale.
