Kelley Stoltz released his 18th album, La Fleur, back in June, and one of its many highlights is the spacey, arm-waving anthem “About Time.” He’s has now made a video for it that tells a tale as old as time: an innocent who moves from the country to the city to make it big in showbiz, only to have his dreams dashed by evil managers and rockstar excess. It’s a subject Stoltz himself probably has some firsthand knowledge of, and he brings his wit to this one.
The video was made while Kelley was on tour recently in England and Scotland. “It all started when it was laundry day and my friend Bernie said she had just the thing for me to wear while my clothes were wet,” Kelley tells us. “She laughed aloud and handed me a XXXL pair of denim overalls and a straw hat. As I fell into character, an idea was hatched pretty quickly – farm boy goes to the big city discovers a guitar and becomes a rock n roll star only to become debauched and disillusioned… thankfully drummer Josh McCartney, who doubles as a real life filmmaker, had brought his dad’s trusty early ’90s digital portacam to film some stuff, and so we shot on mornings before driving off to the next gig with my band and a few friends doing the acting. Manchester, London, Margate and a farm in Scotland provide the backdrop… it’s a fairytale with cows, booze and the BBC!”
