Hollie Cook has announced her fifth album, Shy Girl, which will be out October 10. After two records for Merge she is back on Mr Bongo, the label that released her wonderful first two albums. She made it with regular collaborators The General Roots Band, recording in London, NYC, LA, and Spain with producer Ben Mckone behind the boards.
“I’m not a natural show-off,” Cook says of the album’s title. “The Shy Girl theme is me. It’s just about being my most vulnerable self and being as true to the music that I love as possible.”
The album includes her excellent recent single “Night Night,” which found her reuniting with Jamaican toaster/drummer Horseman (a regular on her first two albums), and she’s just shared the album’s breezy title track, which is powered by bouncy organ and Hollie’s angelic harmonies.
