Guided by Voices announce new album, share “(You Can’t Go Back To) Oxford Talawanda”

Rumors of their demise have been greatly exaggerated, it seems. Guided by Voices have announced their 42nd album, Thick Rich and Delicious, which will be out October 31 via GBV Inc. It features “a new batch of songs with a basket of unrecorded gems dating back to the band’s nascent years.”

The first single from the album is “(You Can’t Go Back To) Oxford Talawanda” which is powered by classic GBV riffage. “I’m a student of hooks,” Bob Pollard says. “That perfect combination of a lyric and a chord pattern that gives you that chill up the back of your spine.” Listen below.

A few months ago, GBV guitarist Bobby Bare Jr said on Lou Barlow’s podcast that the band were “breaking up” and “never going to play again.” The breaking up part may have been taken out of context, but we’ll have to see if the band will actually never hit the stage again. Let’s hope that’s not the case.
