Foxing and The Hotelier are gearing up for a joint 10th anniversary tour celebrating their breakthrough albums The Albatross and Home, Like Noplace Is There, respectively, and today, Foxing have announced a 10th anniversary edition of The Albatross.
The Albatross: Ten Years includes the original album, plus a second LP featuring covers and reimaginings of songs from The Albatross by newer emo (and emo-adjacent) bands–including Home Is Where, Prince Daddy & the Hyena, Sweet Pill, For Your Health, Carly Cosgrove, Hey ily, Insignificant Other, and Colleen Dow–and new versions of “The Medic” and “Rory” by Foxing themselves.
Today they’ve released the new version of “Rory” and Prince Daddy & the Hyena’s cover of it. Foxing’s new version is fueled by acoustic guitars, sweeping string arrangements, and an updated trumpet part at the end. Re-recorded versions of classics don’t always go over well, but this is a genuinely cool re-working that shows how much Foxing have grown in the past ten years without losing the song’s original charm. Prince Daddy give the song their own unique twist, turning it into something punkier and more driving but still also remaining faithful to the “Rory” we know and love. Listen to both below.
