FKA twigs giving dance performance at the Martha Graham Dance Company Gala

The 2024 Martha Graham Dance Company Gala, which benefits “the creation of new works and preservation of Graham masterpieces,” will feature a dance performance from FKA twigs, who is also one of this year’s honorees. As Pitchfork points out, she’ll do a solo performance of Graham’s 1932 piece Satyric Festival Song. Here’s more from artistic director Janet Eilber:

Twigs is someone I’ve long admired as a creative force and change-maker, so we were delighted to discover her personal interactions with our social media posts. We slid into her DMs to let her know that we wanted to honor her as one of today’s most engaging artistic innovators. That digital exchange inspired the idea of a performance by twigs IRL of Graham’s solo Satyric Festival Song. How appropriate that Martha’s quirky, sassy solo, which both mocked and celebrated her own artistic fearlessness, should be inhabited by one of today’s own multifaceted and charismatic trailblazers. We are thrilled to have twigs onstage for our annual Gala, April 18, which also happens to be the Company’s 98th birthday!

The Gala is on April 18, with performances at New York City Center followed by dinner and dancing at The Metropolitan Club. Gala and performance only tickets are on sale now.

twigs recently collaborated with Two Shell on a new single, “Talk To Me.” Hear it below.
