Final Michael Hurley album announced: hear “Fava”

We lost folk cult legend Michael Hurley this spring; he passed away at age 83 just after playing Knoxville’s Big Ears Festival. He had just finished a new album and that has now been announced: Broken Homes and Gardens will be out September 12 via No Quarter. It features the same lineup as 2021’s The Time of the Foxgloves, with Brian Bovenizer (producer/engineer), Kati Claborn (vocals/engineer) and Luke Ydstie (bass/engineer), and the 11 tracks are a mix of brand new songs and reworked numbers from his deep catalog.

The first song to be released from the album is “Fava,” one of the new songs. It’s a warm and lovely bit of blues that also features Rachel Blumberg on drums and Nate Lumbard on bells and percussion. Listen to that below.
