Eyas is the moniker of Baltimore musician Jenna Balderson, and she’s gearing up to release her debut EP on November 22, produced by Bartees Strange. She recently released the EP’s lead single “Phaded,” and now she’s shared second single “Something In Between” along with its Micah E. Wood-directed video. Both songs find her making delicate, airy indie folk, and the former breaks out into a glitchy, Radiohead-esque jam with some help from Dr. Dog drummer Eric Slick.
The new song “is about existing in a relational gray area, a liminal space resulting from a very palpable emotional connection with someone without the security of commitment – a ‘situationship’ so to speak,” Jenna tells us. “We chose to go with a yellow theme for the video because it’s a pretty figuratively loaded color representing joy, hope, and friendship, but also representing caution and fear. They were really relevant feelings to the song, and with all the yellow flowers and foliage popping up around the city it felt fitting.” Check it out below.
She has one upcoming show at the moment, opening for Xiu Xiu at Metro Gallery in Baltimore on October 13. Stay tuned for more shows and more info on the EP.
