A Liverpool venue that The Beatles performed at over 40 times in their early days has become an Airbnb. The Casbah Coffee Club, located at 8 Haymans Green, West Derby, Liverpool, first opened in the basement of original Beatles drummer Pete Best’s family home by his mother Mona, who is “acknowledged as being the first female rock n’ roll promotor in the world,” and the Best family are the hosts of the Airbnb. Mona purchased the building in the late 1950s after winning a bet and gave pre-Beatles band The Quarrymen a residency at the space.
There are various suites available for rent, each named after an original Beatles member: John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Pete Best, and original bassist Stuart Sutcliffe. There’s no suite named after Ringo Starr, but Best tells The Guardian that there’s no bad blood with Ringo.
“I still don’t know the reason today, but it doesn’t worry me one iota,” he said. “As far as I’m concerned, it happened 60-odd years ago, and I’ve lived my life, I’ve had a great life.
“It did cause me initial heartache and resentment, but that’s showbusiness.”
Pete’s younger brother Roag Best added, “Everything we do is about being authentic and the Beatles that performed and partied here were John, Paul, George, Pete and Stuart. Ringo was never a member when he was here.”
