So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
YAEJI – “BOOBOO”
Yaeji premiered this fun new single on her Boiler Room set and now it’s out in the world. “i think with anything – a little breathing room, a little break – distance makes the heart grow fonder,” says Yaeji. “with the overpowering attention that came from raingurl, i took a break from clubbing, dance music, and the underground scene, but in that time away from it all, it’s allowed me to gain new perspective and a deeper appreciation for it. this year is the 10-year mark for many of the parties my friends and i used to go to, so booboo coming out now feels like full circle moment. and with my closest friends—who i’ve witnessed grow as DJs and start their own labels, throwing parties & having fun, all while creating a radical and safe space, it’s been so fun being their cheerleader and now rejoining them in the club, front right! “

LAURA JANE GRACE – “BABY, BABY” (THE SIDEKICKS COVER)
Laura Jane Grace covered The Sidekicks’ “Baby, Baby” For 20 Years of Dreaming and Scheming, which celebrates the 20th anniversary of Red Scare Industries. “Toby [Jeg] has done a million solids over the years, starting with signing Against Me! and even just small acts of kindness,” Laura told Rolling Stone. “He was the reason that I got the Four Seasons Landscaping gig. The Sidekicks were on Red Scare records and we did a full U.S. tour with them back in 2014. That’s my favorite one of their songs.”

HAYDEN THORPE (WILD BEASTS) – “HE”
Is this the bounciest, poppiest thing former Wild Beasts member Hayden Thorpe has ever sung on? New solo album Ness is out September 27.

BLONDSHELL – “WHAT’S FAIR”
“I think that any relationship between a mother and a daughter is inherently complicated,” Blondshell says of her new single, “What’s Fair.” “Maybe it’s because of my own relationship, which was grounded in a lot of trauma and loss, but I think it’s always confusing. What are you allowed to expect, what is normal, what behavior from a parent is okay or not okay etc? And to what extent does ‘normal’ even matter when your experience is all you have. I was just trying to sift through the past when I wrote this song and I mostly had a lot of questions.”

TINDERSTICKS – “ALWAYS STRANGER”
“Some of the songs I write, I understand their reference points,” Tindersticks’ Stuart Staples says. “For ‘New World’ and ‘Don’t Walk, Run,’ I probably understood their reference points. But some songs I don’t understand where they come from at all – They just kind of happen. ‘Always a Stranger’ is one of those songs, it holds a kind of mystery to me at the very centre of it.” Tindersticks new album Soft Tissue is out September 13.

LAURA MARLING – “NO ONE’S GONNA LOVE YOU LIKE I CAN”
The latest single from Laura Marling’s new album Patterns in Repeat is “No One’s Gonna Love You Like I Can,” a tender lullaby with lush strings.

THE BAD PLUS – “FRENCH HORNS”
Long-running jazz combo The Bad Plus will release Complex Emotions on November 8 via Mack Avenue Records. “With this new album and this new batch of music, we’re planting a flag to say that this version of the band has really come into its own,” the band’s Reid Anderson says. “A big part of what the sound of this band is is the willingness to explore complex emotions. That’s something that we’re not only comfortable with but that we’ve embraced from the beginning of the band.”

FANTASY OF A BROKEN HEART – “FOLLOW YOUR CAPTAIN”
fantasy of a broken heart’s debut album Feats of Engineering is out next month, and ahead of its release they’ve shared another single, “Follow Your Captain.” It’s about Bailey Wollowitz and Al Nardo’s “youth together, our time spent in the woods & tunneling underground—about a human’s ability to recklessly let themselves be controlled by another,” Wollowitz says. “A lot of the sound design was inspired by Smash Bros. It’s the quickest we’ve ever completed a recording from start to finish, & I think the anxiety of doing so is palpable.”

WILLIAM TYLER – “FINAL FLIGHT”
William Tyler has a new single out on Sylvan Esso’s Psychic Hotline label, and while he’s known for guitar, this mixes electronics with traditional instruments for a little ambient beauty.

MAGDALENA BAY – “THAT’S MY FLOOR”
Ahead of the release of their sophomore album Imaginal Disk on Friday, Magdalena Bay have shared a final advance single, maximalist electro-pop track “That’s My Floor.”

THE SOFTIES – “GO BACK IN TIME”
““Go Back in Time” started as a song about a missing a faraway loved one but then also became a song about missing former versions of ourselves, longing for the familiarity of a time that is long gone,” Rose Melberg says of The Softies’ new single. The band’s first album in 24 years is out this week.

DAWES – “STILL STRANGERS SOMETIMES”
“It’s a song about the spiritual investigation of long-term relationships,” Taylor Goldsmith says of Dawes’ new single. “How a part of ourselves will be unknowable forever, despite our deep connections and intimate understandings of each other.” It’s from their new album Oh Brother.

JULIE – “VERY LITTLE EFFORT”
LA shoegaze/noise rock trio are gearing up to release their debut album my anti-aircraft friend on 9/13 via Atlantic and go on a tour with They Are Gutting a Body of Water, Her New Knife, and Frost Children, and today they’ve shared a new song from the LP, a hazy-yet-driving song called “very little effort.”

JAKE BLOUNT & MALI OBOMSAWIN – “OLD INDIAN HYMN”
Jake Blount and Mali Obomsawin’s new collaborative album symbiont is out next month, and the latest single, “Old Indian Hymn,” was sournced from a 1845 hymnal by Thomas Commuck, the first published music by an Indigenous composer. “Our version of the song incorporates complex, interlocking percussion parts played on many different instruments, and textural components that blend processed vocal performances by Windborne with synthesizers controlled by a wormwood plant,” Blount and Obomsawin say. “A testament to the beauty, diversity and interconnectedness of life, ‘Old Indian Hymn’ functions as the spiritual core of symbiont.”

FIGHT DICE (THE PROMISE, BRAID) – “ATTACK THE DRIDER”
Fight Dice, the new Dungeons & Dragons-inspired band with members of The Promise Ring, Braid, and more, have shared “Attack the Drider,” a hard rock-infused song from their upcoming debut LP Total Party Kill.

MOLINA – “ORGANS” (ft. ML BUCH)
Copenhagen artists Molina and ML Buch have teamed up on an airy dream pop song called “Organs,” which will appear on Molina’s debut album When You Wake Up, due October 11 via Escho. Molina says, “‘Organs’ is very much a fusion of our individual approaches to perceiving melodies, recordings, and sound in general. We are both fascinated by the “pulse” in music and how a song can be perceived to move at different paces. We also share a mutual attraction to catchy melodies. ML tends to unfold words with the melody in an elastic manner, while I prefer more on-the-note vocals that introduce unexpected harmonic shifts. ‘Organs’ kind of holds all those elements of fascination and exploration together.”

THE BLACK PACIFIC (PENNYWISE – “I THINK I’M PARANOID”
Pennywise vocalist Jim Lindberg launched another band called The Black Pacific in 2010 with a self-titled album, and now they announced their second album and first in 14 years, Here Comes Our Wave, due September 20 via Dine Alone. It was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Paul Miner, and the first single is “I Think I’m Paranoid.” It’s not a Garbage cover, but it is a fiery punk ripper that doesn’t fall far from the Pennywise tree.

ORIGAMI ANGEL – “WRETCHED TRAJECTORY”
DC emo duo Origami Angel have shared another new single from their anticipated new LP Feeling Not Found. This one finds the shapeshifting band in crunchy power pop mode.
