Bright Eyes are preparing to release their anticipated new album Five Dice, All Threes this Friday (9/20), and ahead of its release, Conor Oberst talked about it with NME, who bring up that Elon Musk is mentioned in one of the songs. That prompts Conor to give his opinion on the Twitter X owner, Trump booster, and former Grimes partner, and he doesn’t hold back, saying, “I think he’s one of the biggest pieces of shit to ever walk the fucking earth. I think he’s ruining culture one step at a time. I think he’s a megalomaniac. I think Grimes sucks. He’s the richest man in the world, which probably says more about humanity than him. He didn’t invent anything – same with fucking Steve Jobs, they just got rich off other people’s ideas. And I will never buy a Tesla for that fucking reason. I’ll buy an electric car, but I won’t buy shit from that motherfucker ever.”
Conor is also not feeling bullish on artificial intelligence; he told NME, “I read these articles where they say it’s going to be helpful for doctors in rural communities and I’m not saying that technology has no value. I just think it has no value in art. I mean, just leave art alone. Can we have one little sliver of society where we aren’t slaves to tech companies’ bullshit? Let there be some humanity left for your grandchildren.”

Bright Eyes are on their fall tour now, which stops in NYC on Thursday (9/19) at Brooklyn Steel with The So So Glos (whose Alex Orange Drink appears on the new album). They also have a more extensive 2025 tour coming up, including another NYC show at Brooklyn Paramount on April 17.
