Common Sage have been establishing themselves as torch-carriers of early 2000s-style emo, and they’ve been opening for and collaborating with a handful of genre OGs lately. Last year, they put out a song featuring Further Seems Forever’s Jason Gleason before opening FSF’s How to Start a Fire 20th anniversary tour, and now they’ve signed to long-running emo/hardcore label Equal Vision and announced a new EP, Nostos | Algos, which features the Jason Gleason collab as well as a new song featuring Thursday vocalist Geoff Rickly and guitarist Steve Pedulla. The EP was produced, engineered, and mixed by The Movielife/I Am The Avalanche’s Brett Romnes and mastered by Mike Kalijian, and the new song’s unsettling video (which Geoff and Steve also star in) was directed by The Number 12 Looks Like You’s Jesse Korman. (Also of note: Common Sage’s drummer Christopher Todd was previously in the great post-metal band Sannhet.)
“Edin” sounds like something you could picture fitting right in on Full Collapse or War All the Time, so it should come as no surprise that Geoff’s voice suits it perfectly. And Common Sage really do justice to that classic aughts-era sound. Check out the song and its video below. The EP comes out July 24.
Common Sage have one upcoming show at the moment, opening for the influential Long Island emo band Inside at one of their two reunion shows, the one on July 7 at Amityville Music Hall with Private Mind and Playing Dead.
