Calling Hours (Farside’s Popeye + Don’t Sleep members) prep debut LP (new video)

Popeye Vogelsang, vocalist/guitarist of West Coast post-hardcore greats Farside, is now leading the new band Calling Hours, which finds him backed by all four instrumentalists in Dave Smalley’s band Don’t Sleep. Their debut album Say Less was made with veteran post-hardcore producer Brian McTernan, and it comes out on November 10 via the legendary Revelation Records (pre-order).

They recently released lead single “Curtain Call,” and new single “Gin Perry” is out today. “We think ‘Gin Perry’ will be a lot of people’s favorite song on the album,” says bassist Garrett Rothman. “The elephant in the ‘Gin Perry’ room is that we’re pretty sure it’s the only song ever written with the word ‘kerfuffle’ in it – a fact that we hope will someday be a question on Jeopardy!.”

Both songs find the band embracing the energy of their punk roots and injecting a little ragged Americana; if you like the more jangly Farside songs, you’re gonna like this too. “Gin Perry” comes with a video directed by Caleb Smith and the “Calling Hours” video was directed by Josh Nesmith.
