Like they did in the Hamptons in August, Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith and producer Andrew Watt (Rolling Stones, Ozzy Osbourne, Pearl Jam, etc) brought their “Smith and Watt Steakhouse” show to NYC’s Brooklyn Bowl last night (9/18). Paul McCartney didn’t join this time like he did in the Hamptons, but they did have a number of special guests.
The Roots’ Black Thought joined to aid on a rendition of The Roots’ “The Seed (2.0),” Jimmy Fallon sang lead on a cover of The Doors’ “Roadhouse Blues,” The Black Crowes’ Chris Robinson sang on covers of The Faces’ “Stay With Me” and Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love,” and Charlotte Lawrence sang on covers of The Police’s “Roxanne,” Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams,” and The Cure’s “Just Like Heaven.” Also on stage were G.E. Smith, Robert Randolph, The Budos Band’s Jared Tankel, Danny Clinch, and others, and also covered was David Bowie’s “Ziggy Stardust,” Prince’s “Purple Rain,” Jimi Hendrix’s “Purple Haze,” and more. It was also the eve of Jimmy Fallon’s 50th birthday, and they brought out a cake and sang to him for the occasion. Check out fan-shot photos and videos from the night below.
Earlier in the night, a Kamala Harris fundraiser was held at Brooklyn Bowl, hosted by Spike Lee and featuring Harris’ husband Doug Emhoff as a speaker.
Last night’s Brooklyn Bowl show wasn’t the only thing Chad Smith and Andrew Watt were up to in NYC this week. They both joined Richie Cannata’s Monday Night Jam at The Bitter End on Monday (video below), and Chad is also appearing as a special guest with Outernational at the NYC and LA release shows for their new album Welcome to the Revolution. NYC is at Le Poisson Rouge tonight (9/19) and LA is 9/28 at The Paramount.
