Just over a week after announcing her first tour since 2016, ANOHNI played her first show in seven years. It was at the Acropolis in Athens, and she was joined by The Johnsons — Jimmy Hogarth, Leo Abrahams, Chris Vatalaro, Gael Rakotondrabe, and Sam Dixon — along with Julia Kent, Max Moston, Doug Wiselman and Mazz Swift, for their first band show in nine years. Marina Abramovic introduced the performance, which included songs from last year’s fantastic My Back Was a Bridge For You To Cross and ANOHNI’s 2016 solo album Hopelessness, as well as 2005’s I Am a Bird Now and 2009’s The Crying Light. ANOHNI and the Johnsons just released a new single, “Breaking,” earlier this week, but they didn’t play that one. They have more shows in Europe and the UK coming up this month and next, and their North American tour begins in the fall, including Brooklyn shows at BAM Howard Gilman Opera House on October 18 and 19.
