Air are celebrating the 25th anniversary of their soundtrack to Sofia Coppola’s The Virgin Suicides with a new edition, featuring a new analog mix from the original tapes by original mixer Stéphane ‘Alf’ Briat. “We made the album in 1999 on a very low budget,” Nicolas Godin says. “It was during the first era of digital home studio equipment, and the sound is very metallic and cold, and I’ve always regretted that about the way it sounds. So we’ve remixed it to make it into something warmer, more organic. Now it sounds how it always was meant to sound.”
The Virgin Suicides Redux is due out on September 26 via Warner France, and in addition to the digital release there’s a full analog vinyl edition and a deluxe 2-CD/Blu-ray digipack. The latter features the new analog mix, a Dolby Atmos spatial audio Blu-ray of the album, and a collection of previously unreleased rarities and demos. See the cover art and tracklist below.
Air are also about to begin another round of North American dates of their spectacular Moon Safari tour, including NYC shows at Brooklyn Paramount on October 10, 11, and 12. Bill caught the show at Beacon Theatre last year, and wrote, “This is the most transfixing, transportive, spectacular, fully realized show — both sight and sound — I have seen since Massive Attack’s Mezzanine XXI tour in 2019. That box they play in, perhaps a nod to the artwork of 10,000 Hz Legend, really does seem like magic and made for what seemed like a nonstop parade of holy shit moments for me.” See all dates below.
