So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a slightly belated edition of Monday’s (9/18) roundup of newly-released songs.
OMD – “SLOW TRAIN”
“Slow Train” is not your usual OMD song, a glammy stomper explores a new corner of the synthpop universe for them. “‘Slow Train’ is a bonkers song and the video is stunningly crazy!” says Andy McCluskey. “It feels nice to be able to challenge people’s expectations of the band after 45 years of creating music.” New album Bauhaus Staircase is out October 27.

SOFT CELL – “ENTERTAIN ME (2023 EXTENDED VERSION)”
Here’s another previously unheard track from Soft Cell’s upcoming Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret Super Deluxe Edition.

ART FEYNMAN – “EARLY SIGNS OF RHYTHM”
Luke Temple will release his third album as Art Feynman in November and it’s the first made in a real studio with a band. Strong early-’80s Talking Heads vibes on this one.

WAR VIOLET – “DIFFERENT FORMATIONS”
War Violet, the psych folk project of NYC-based artist and multi-instrumentalist Olajumoke “Jummy” Aremu, has signed to Kill Rock Stars Nashville in the US and Bella Union in the UK. The lush, baroque “Different Formations” is her debut single for the labels.

THE SERFS: “CLUB DEUCE”
Cincinnati’s The Serfs make twisted synthpop that looks back to the darker part of the ’80s. New album Half Eaten by Dogs will be out October 27 via Trouble in Mind and this is the first single.

NIBOOWIN – “ALBEDO, BREATHE ON”
Michigan screamo band Niboowin will release a new album called Giving In in 2024 via Zegema Beach Records, and it’ll include the climactic fury of new single “Albedo, Breathe On.”

EQUIPMENT – “MINNOW”
Ohio emo band Equipment have deservingly stirred up a good amount of buzz for their upcoming LP Alt. Account, and they’ve just shared another taste of it that’s keeping us excited.

LAURA VEIRS – “ROCKS OF TIME”
Laura Veirs has announced a new LP and shared lead single “Rocks of Time,” which you can read about here.

PULSES. – “LOAFERS WITH THE WHITE SOCKS”
